3 Self Care Ideas For Boss Honeys

There’s no denying that the world is a bit topsy-turvy right now.

Life has been upside down for so long that it’s bound to have had an effect on our mental health and wellbeing. Before the pandemic, we had freedom. We had travel and events. We had parties, networking, and most importantly, we had hugs. Now, our social lives and our lifestyles have completely changed… and we’ve changed with them. Loud nights out have been replaced by quiet, snuggly nights in. Boss honeys are juggling running a business, creating content, and taking care of those around them. This is your nudge, a gentle reminder to prioritize your own self-care and mental health too.

Reflecting on what you love most is more important than ever right now. When quarantine first hit I tackled my list of goals quickly. I had to take a step back and do some soul-searching to rediscover my passions. Ask yourself what makes you feel good on a soul level, and do more of it. Doing more of what you love will clear your head and fill your heart. You’ve probably heard the saying, “self-care is not selfish,” and it’s true. Because when you do more of what makes you feel good, it helps you show up for others who might be struggling. Taking care of #1 allows you to spread more kindness and joy to the people around you.

There are a few little things that you can do with minimal time, money, and effort to spark joy. These are my 3 self-care ideas to help every boss honey feel good during lockdown.

1) Get dolled up

This may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things but I actually miss getting dolled up and dressed up so much. Usually, if I’ve been in sweats and no makeup for this long it means something is wrong and someone should check on me. Some people don’t know this but mental health issues can trick you into correlating how good you feel with how you present yourself outwardly. So get dolled and dressed up like you’re going out but do it for yourself, not for anyone else.

Dig through your closet to find inspiration. Is there a bold look you’ve always wanted to try? Now’s your chance to play with your style. Try on different outfits, experiment with makeup looks, and wear hairstyles you’ve never tried. My hair is so thick and curly that it usually takes at least 1.5 hours to wash and style. My friend helped me discover hair and it’s revolutionized my style. Now it looks like I’ve spent hours getting ready when it really took 5 minutes. Use my code “THEHONEY20” to get 20% OFF and try it in your style and colour.

2) Make time for self-care

When was the last time you lit some candles and had a luxurious bubble bath? Schedule in some time each week to spend quality time with yourself. You can even do it with friends and have an at-home spa night if you’re able to do so safely. My girlfriends and I got together to have a pumpkin spice spa night. We tried these cute pedi-in-a-box pedicure kits from Voesh New York. We did scrubs, face masks, and even had themed snacks to create a full at-home spa experience.

If spa days aren’t your thing and you’d rather make moves try an online yoga challenge. I’ve been doing Yoga with Adriene’s free 30-day challenges and they’ve done wonders for my flexibility and my wellness. She sends out a new one every month to keep you on your toes. If you’ve never tried yoga, don’t worry. She’s great at offering adjustments to accommodate every body type and skill level. Yoga has so many mental health benefits, and you can always tap out halfway if you’re not into it. Doing it from home guarantees no judgment.

3) Feel body positive

SELF-CARE

I once read an article that talked about wearing sexy lingerie under your work clothes to boost your confidence in difficult meetings and presentations. I’ve tried it out and I was surprised that it actually works. Now, whenever I need a confidence boost I put on something that makes me feel body positive and sexy even if nobody ever sees it. Putting on something silk or satin is like writing a love letter to yourself. It’s a quick way to make yourself feel good.

I heard about a lingerie company called Empress Mimi over lockdown and I had to try it. They send you a new set every month as part of their subscription box. I’ve pretty much given up on anything with a wire or elastic so finding something comfortable was important to me. Luckily, all of their bras are underwire-free so you don’t have to deal with metal wires poking at you all day. I loved waiting for the surprise in the mail to see what I’d end up with.

I got a box called “La Vie en Rose, an ode to looking at life through rose-tinted glasses and taking moments out of your day to simply stop and appreciate all the beauty in life.” I love the sentiment because right now we could all use a reason to stop and smell the roses. The box is normally $44.95, but use my link to get $10 off.

I hope these self-care ideas inspire you to take care of yourself and your mental health so you can get back to strutting through the world like the badass boss babe you are.
